I'd be a kid.

One night I was lying with my 8 year old son, doing our nightly ritual of books, then bed, when I decided to ask him a question. I asked him this; “If you could be anything in the world buddy, what would you be?”

Without hesitation, he answered, “I’d be a kid, mom. I wouldn’t want to be anything other than what I am.”

Brilliant answer.  BRILLIANT.

How often, in our adult minds, do we find ourselves stuck thinking about the past or ridden with anxiety, worry or overwhelm about our future?

Kids just get it.  They really get it.

Their little minds, still full of wonder and creativity, feel at ease in the present moment.  The present moment feels like ‘home’ for them.  As we age, and our prefrontal cortex develops, we lose touch with those creative, right brain tendencies.  We attach more and more to belief systems, fears, and expectations.

That simple bedtime Q & A reminded me of three things that I think we all need to remind ourselves of:

1. The present moment is a gift.  Enjoy the wonder and beauty of the age and stage you are at, and where your loved ones are at.   In a blink, the time has passed.

2.  We don’t always need great and grandiose visions for our futures.  Simple, can be abundant.

3.    Sometimes, asking a question, will give you exactly the answer you need to hear.

Sometimes, it’s such a breath of fresh air to see the world through the eyes of a child.

Light + Love,
