YOUTh MAttEr 2019 was epic!

We had over 300 youth and educators join us on October 10th, 2019 to celebrate World Mental Health Day and here’s what they had to say about their experience!

Thank you so much for organizing this amazing event! Our students and staff thought it was such a wonderful day. I loved that they had the opportunity to hear others stories, share their own and learn strategies to help them deal with their mental health. We appreciate all the work that you, your sponsors and crew put in to make it such a great event. We can't wait until next year! Great job, you should be proud!!

-Carla Jule, St. Brieux School Guidance Counsellor

YOUth Matter was an amazing opportunity for our youth to learn more about mindfulness and create open discussion about mental health. I took my three oldest children, and I stayed and attended the keynote speakers and two of the breakout sessions with them. I am so glad that I did! I feel like I got as much out of the event as the kids did. Not only did my children and I acquire tools to help us with mental wellness, we also have been encouraged to keep the dialogue and discussion going at home. In fact, we have applied some of the tools since the conference and have had many open conversations about mindfulness, something that we had not discussed often beforehand. I cannot thank Laura and the entire planning committee for all of their work and effort to bring this event and opportunity together! One of my children summed up the day and all of the experiences so well to me on the way home from the event when he said, “If your generation can help give us the tools, then our generation will be able to build something.” We are already looking forward to attending again next year!

Hello! I’m Laura Lawrence, founder of the YOUth MATTER Mental Health for Youth Symposium held on October 10th, in Melfort, SK at the Kerry Vickar Centre.

I’ve spent over 15 years working with youth in and out of the classroom as a teacher, coach, & mentor. This event was a vision of mine that started earlier this year and became a reality thanks to all the amazing people who graciously donated their time and efforts to volunteering, speaking, presenting and facilitating for the Symposium. It was my hope that this event could foster a safe, inclusive environment and inspires positive action and meaningful change for youth through open discussion, learning new strategies and methods for managing stress, anxiety and emotions. This event turned out to be all that I had envisioned and so much more and everyone who was present there that day was able to share in the magic of it. My heart is full and I’m excited for what’s head next year for YOUth MATTER!
